Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
At our nursery, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the statutory framework that sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five years of age.
The EYFS is designed to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, develop and thrive in a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment. It recognises that every child is unique and learns at their own pace, so our experienced practitioners carefully plan activities that reflect each child’s individual interests, abilities and stage of development.
Our curriculum is centred around play-based learning, as we believe children learn best through meaningful, hands-on experiences. Through play, exploration and positive relationships, children develop the confidence, curiosity and resilience they need to become lifelong learners.
The EYFS is built around seven areas of learning and development:
Prime Areas
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Specific Areas
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
These areas are woven into everything we do, from everyday routines and child-led play to carefully planned activities and experiences. By observing each child and understanding their individual interests, we create exciting learning opportunities that encourage children to explore, discover and achieve their full potential.
We work closely with parents and carers, recognising that they are a child’s first and most important educators. By working in partnership, we can provide the best possible support for every child’s learning and development.

Tapestry Online Learning Journal
We use Tapestry, a secure online learning journal, to record and celebrate your child’s learning journey throughout their time with us.
Tapestry allows our practitioners to upload observations, photographs and videos of the exciting activities and experiences your child takes part in at nursery. Each observation is linked to the EYFS, helping us to monitor your child’s progress and plan their next steps in learning.
Parents and carers are given their own secure login, allowing you to:
- View observations, photos and videos of your child.
- Celebrate your child’s achievements and milestones.
- See how your child is progressing through the EYFS.
- Add your own observations, photos and special moments from home.
- Communicate with your child’s key person and contribute to their learning journey.
By sharing learning both at nursery and at home, Tapestry helps us build a strong partnership with families, ensuring that every child receives the best possible support throughout their early years.
We believe that learning doesn’t stop when children leave nursery, and Tapestry is a wonderful way to celebrate achievements together and strengthen the connection between home and nursery.
